Job Description

The Estimator is responsible for quoting jobs for current and new customers, for a precision sheet metal manufacturing company.  Job will include estimating labor and materials required to successfully and profitably manufacture sheet metal parts, including sheet metal enclosures, shelving, powder coating, assemblies, and special projects.  This is a multiple task, deadline based environment with a requirement for speed and accuracy, therefore flexibility is necessary to maintain multiple projects as well as re-evaluate and change priorities quickly and efficiently.   The ideal candidate will have experience estimating for the sheet metal industry, and preferably some hands on sheet metal experience.

Responsibilities:

Become familiar with all manufacturing processes in the plant, and maintain current knowledge to ensure accurate quoting is performed.

Evaluate the scope of work from customers’ drawings, samples, specifications, notes and RFQ’s.

Determine estimated part layout, type and number of primary and secondary operations and methods required to produce a part in the most efficient and cost effective manner.

Price materials - using internal records when available, and sourcing/contacting new & existing vendors and sub-contractors.

Estimate labor and material cost of parts including packaging, sub-contracting, powder coating, and delivery.

Determine required tooling type and cost.

Create Bill of Material and Shop Routing documents.

Interact with clients’ buyers and engineers via email, phone, and in person.

Create estimate in E2 Shoptech software.

Review estimates for accuracy and completeness, and submit to client.

Requote as needed for changes in labor cost, raw material cost, equipment changes, or quantity changes.

Retrieve drawing files from internal server, Email, or clients’ ftp site.

Occasional Travel to customer or supplier location as needed.

Requirements:

Understanding of manufacturing fundamentals, and geometric dimensioning & tolerances.

At least one year experience estimating for sheet metal manufacturing, powder coating, and assembly with low to high volume in a high mix environment.

Ability to use Microsoft Excel to create and maintain spreadsheets, ability to create simple formulas.

Ability to use Microsoft Windows including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Strong math skills, including addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, fractions, decimals, ratios. 

Ability to use calipers, tape measures, other measuring tools in English and Metric measurements.

Strong written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to communicate with customers, vendors and co-workers in a professional capacity.

Ability to read/interpret drawings including the ability to view and understand drawings and 3D models in Solid Works.

Lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs in office or shop.

Sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, balancing, talking, hearing and reaching.

Willingness to perform tasks outside core responsibilities when necessary.

Full Time 1st Shift, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with some overtime available. 

Pay depends on Experience.
